Question:

AOA

Sheikh
I have a question about cutting hair in 10 days of Zulhaj.
1. We are not performing Haj but are doing Qurbani. Should we avoid cutting hair ?

2. If have not cut hair in 10 days , on 10th day what time we can cut hair after Eid Salaat?
Before or after slaughtering the animal.
We are slaughtering in Pakistan, that is 3 hours behind , we wait until they slaughter our animal??

Answer:

Wa alaykum salam.

بسم الله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله

قال إذا دخل العشر وعنده أضحية يريد أن يضحي فلا يأخذن شعرا ولا يقلمن ظفرا
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said, “When the ten days (of Dhul Hijjah) commence and a person has a sacrificial animal which he intends to slaughter, then let him not cut his hair or pare his nails.” (Muslim)

It is Mustahabb (meritorious,) for one intending to make Qurbani whether man or woman, not to trim the nails and not shave or cut hair during the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah.
One may cut hair and nails after the animal has been slaughtered.

Some Ulama are of the opinion that the wisdom behind not cutting one’s hair and nails is to resemble, in some way the pilgrims of Hajj.

Allah knows best.
