Question:

Asslam alliakum brother

JazzakAllah khair for your guidance to the Muslim community in fiqh issues.
I have a question regarding compulsory ghusl, I had a bandage on my leg and I forgot to remove it and had the ghusl, then I performed jumma salah. The bandaid is not porous and water cannot get through. Do I need to perform ghusl again and repeat my jumma salah. JazzakAllah.

Answer:

بسم الله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله

Wa alaykum salam.

If one has an injury or wound with a bandage or splint and it would be harmful to remove it, then one may wipe over the bandage or covered area in the place of washing for ghusl or wudhu.
The general rule is that if one is able to wash an injury or wound without harm then it is compulsory to do so if washing that body part is an obligation. If washing the affected area will cause harm then one should wipe over the wounded area. If this is not possible then one must wipe over the bandage covering the area. If this, too is not possible due to reasonable harm, then that area may be left out.

Inabilty to wash or wipe and reasonable harm is established through;
1. Past experience,
2. Apparent signs.
3. Advice of a credible Muslim doctor.

So if your wound was not so serious that washing it is possible then you should do so and repeat your prayer.

Allah knows best.
