Shortening prayers while traveling
Assalam Alaykum Sheikh,
If we’re travelling and very late to offer maghrib salah and just offered salah before Isha, first of all need to know if this is accepted and most important thing came to know there is no Qaza when traveling is this correct.
Just to clarify my above question, I am away from Perth almost 500kms and I had been told that qasr namaz cannot be Qaza,I offered maghrib namaz very late and at that time Isha salah time has been started here and a brother had told me that don’t make the niyat of Qaza as mentioned above Qasr namaz cannot be Qaza.
I hope this make sense

If you missed your maghrib salaat while travelling and delayed it until Isha time then it will be considered as qadha.
There is no qasr (shortening of prayers) for Maghrib salaat. Maghrib salaat will remain as three raka’ah whether you are a musaafir (traveller) or a muqeem (non traveller). Likewise there is no qasr of the Fajar prayer.
As far as the prayers that consists of four raka’ah (Zuhur, Asar and Isha), these prayers will be shortened from four raka’ah to two raka’ah when travelling. In the Hanafi school to shorten these prayers is wajib whilst you are a traveller.
One will be considered a traveller If one intends to travel a minimum distance of 77.8 (78) km or more.
He will be regarded as a Musaafir (traveller) once he leaves the housing area of his town. In that situation he will have to perform Qasar Salah.
If one misses a salaat while travelling then the qadha of the missed prayer is compulsory.
If you missed Zuhur salaat or any other prayer that usually consists of four raka’ah while you were travelling then you will make qadha of two raka’ah only even after you have returned home and become a muqeem.
Likewise if you missed a Zuhur prayer or any other prayer of four raka’ah while you were a muqeem then you will have to make qadha of four rakaah even though you are a traveller at the time of making your qadha.
