Taraweeh with Family and Friends
If my son is reading taraweeh and I invite a friend and her daughter over can they read salah behind him as well? (Hanafi)
و عليكم السلًم ورحمة الله وبركات ه
Yes your son can be the imam for the other ladies in taraweeh prayers and it is preferable that the imam has reached the age of maturity ( ie he should be baligh).
Although some opinions state that a (non baligh) child can lead taraweeh prayers in Ramadan, this is not the strongest position in the Hanafi school.
However, if there are women praying behind such an Imām, then it is also essential for the Imām to have the intention of leading the salāh for females as well, otherwise their salāh will not be fulfilled.
It is stated in Hāshiyah Tahtāwī,
ولا تصير المرأة داخلة في صلًة الإمام إلا أن ينوي إمامته ا“ ”
“Females will not be included in the salāh of the Imām, unless the Imām intends to lead them as well.”
It should go without saying that the rules of hijab be strictly observed if non mahram relatives/friends are going to be present.
