Visiting the graveyard

I became uncertain why i would be visiting my loved ones’ graves, while their soul is in the ‘barzakh’.
I read your knowledge base regarding the dead benefitting from our greeting because it alleviates their torment and gives them a sense of safety.
My question is if they can hear us, then that would be only while we are at their grave?

The scholars differ concerning whether the dead hear the talk of living people. Some believe that they hear them while others believe that the dead people do not hear living ones.
There are evidences to support both opinions.
Perhaps the more balanced answer will be as what some scholars have stated that they might hear in some situations when Allah allows them to and not hear in others. Their hearing may not be permanent.

And Allah knows best.
