صَفْوَةٌ
Safwah is the Arabic term referring to elite, quintessence and excellence – a term used to describe the status of the divinely guided prophets. The blessed land of Al-Shām in prophetic tradition is also described as “Safwatullahi min bilādihi – Al-Shām is the most refined of the lands of Allah”.
Safwah Online draws its inspiration from the refined characters of the prophets of Allah, and its love for the blessed land of the prophets, Al-Shām.
Who we are
Safwah Online is an Australian based scholar guided global Islamic educational platform providing authentic Islamic knowledge both online and onsite. Established informally in 2019 at the height of the ‘pandemic ’ as a podcast platform, its listenership grew exponentially in a short space of time. Occasional live-streamed programs paved the way for 24hr broadcasts throughout the blessed months of Ramadān. As a response to a growing demand, Safwah Online revisited its mission and subsequently broadened its horizon. Safwah Online has since relaunched its website and is now offering onsite and online certificate based courses in addition to its podcasts – with more to come.
Our Mission
The mission of Safwah Online is centred around the standards, values and legacy of these men of excellence. In achieving this mission, Safwah Online makes accessible a high standard of inspirational content via its offered courses and podcasts appealing to a variety of audiences. Our vision is the salvation of all of mankind in both worlds.
Amīr:
Shaykh Mawlana Shabir Moosa gives direction to Safwah Online and is a proud son of the Zakariyya Seminary on the outskirts of Johannesburg, South Africa. Having sat at the feet of his mentors at his alma mater, he also drew inspiration in Shām from The Syrian Hanafi & Hadith Tradition. Currently serving the community as an Imam in Perth, Australia, Shaykh Shabir is based at Darul Uloom Masjid Ibrahim where he teaches a variety of subjects. He also has a keen interest in Money Matters and heads CIEA – Centre for Islamic Economics Australia, an Islamic Finance consultancy firm.
Program & Operations Director:
Shaykh Mawlana (and soon Mufti to be) Mohammed Kathrada, brings his array of skills to Safwah Online. His versatility, extroverted nature and penchant for the African bush makes him the only known Shaykh – and soon to be Mufti who doubles as a ‘shari’ah compliant’ safari guide when he is not making things happen at Safwah Online. Tasked with course design, logistics and day-to-day operations, he is the most vital cog of Safwah Online.
